brochure
This program
is offered in all six counties that Girl Scouts of Santiam Council serves.
C.H.O.I.C.E. is focused on middle and high school girls who may not
be involved in other organizations and may be having difficulty reaching
their full potential. Leaders
are recruited from local colleges and communities to provide positive
female role models who can relate readily to the issues and concerns of
teenage girls.
|
In operation for over a
decade, C.H.O.I.C.E. emphasizes:
|
- Developing
self-potential
- Relating to others
- Developing values
- Contributing to
society

How
does the C.H.O.I.C.E. program work?
School counselors refer
girls who are not involved in other school activities and who
would benefit the most from joining a troop. Each group has two
leaders who are trained to be sensitive to special needs or timely
subjects which might need to be discussed. Local consultants are
brought in to supplement the leaders' knowledge as well.
Activities include values clarifications, problem solving,
communication, health care, relationship building, conflict/anger
management, community resources, substance abuse and independent
living skills.
