My School
Suggested level: all
Description: This patch can
help promote Girl Scouting in the school, so that the school learns more
about Girl Scouting while the girls learn more about their school. Many of
the requirements take girl planning, so allow time for this during a troop
meeting before starting the patch. Be sure to ask permission of the school
personnel before beginning the patch.
Patch Requirements: Complete
requirements 1 through 6. This may take 6-12 meetings. The seventh
requirement is optional.
Activities:
-
In a troop meeting, discuss how you could explain to
some one unfamiliar with Girl Scouting: who Girl Scouts are, what they do,
how they join. The troop might want to use posters, skits, etc. Cadette
and Senior Girl Scouts – check with your service unit manager to see about
hosting a recruitment event.
-
Have a special troop meeting or activity to which each
member brings a non-Girl Scout guest. Explain the fun of Girl Scouting to
them.
-
Do something special for your school, such as decorate
a bulletin board, set up a Girl Scout display, donate materials to the
library or give a puppet show for the younger children.
-
Do a "Good Turn" for school personnel, such as
teachers, secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, etc. You could bake
cookies, make something useful for their desks, help clean up the school
grounds, etc.
-
Volunteer your services for a special project taking
place at the school. Conduct a flag ceremony, serve refreshments, have a
booth at the school carnival, be a hostess at a school event, etc.
-
Make your school a better place to attend. Plant
flowers, bulbs or shrubs, paint trashcans, etc.
-
Optional - For Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts.
Attend a PTA or school board meeting.
