The Leadership
Development pin recognizes adult volunteers that demonstrate competence,
commitment to the Girl Scout movement, continuous improvement, and
participate in adult development opportunities that will increase their
skill(s) in working with girls. |
Basic Criteria

The candidate is
a registered Girl Scout.

The candidate
has completed one successful year in the position of troop/group leader,
co-leader, or assistant leader.

The candidate
has completed Girl Scout Orientation, Leadership Skills A, B, & C, and
Stepping Out.

The candidate is
currently certified in First Aid/CPR.

The candidate
has participated in at least two meetings or events beyond the
troop/group. These can be service unit meetings or events, the council’s
Annual Meeting, or council-wide events.
Approval
The candidate submits an application, which is reviewed by her/his
service unit manager. If all requirements have been met, the recognition is
authorized and can be purchased at the council store.

Recognition
The Leadership Development pin depicts a brown owl on a yellow background.
It is earned for completion of the basic criteria. Additional courses are
recognized with leaves, which can be attached to the pin. The Leadership
Development pin is worn below the personal identification pin.
Additional Recognition
Candidates applying for leaves need
to document their hours and describe how the workshop/course has improved
their work with girls. The workshop/course may be a Girl Scout adult
development opportunity, a workshop offered in the community, or a college
course.

Green
leaf

Represents 10 contact
hours or one CEU (continuing education unit). One CEU is equal to ten
contact hours. The contact hours may be completed at one workshop,
course, or adult development event or represent hours accumulated at
several events over a period of time. Five green leaves are replaced
by one silver leaf. |

Represents
50 contact hours or five CEU’s. Five silver leaves are replaced by one
gold leaf. |

Represents
250 contact hours or 25 CEU’s. |
