Volunteer With Girls
11-17

Lead
a workshop and share your special skills with teens — anything from
sewing to surfing is possible! Help out at a special event! Talk to
teens about issues that matter to them (and you!) such as careers,
stress, college, and more!

|
Help teach teens to work with younger girls at
day camp or a spring break event! Help a group plan and carry out a
special event! Let a teen come to work with you during her spring
break!

|
|
|
|
Work with a group through a school year! Lead
monthly workshops to help teens become experts in your field! Act as
an advisor to a special interest group (rock climbing, surfing,
backpacking, etc)!

What is STUDIO 2B?
|
|
With its unique “by girls, for girls” approach, STUDIO 2B
is an innovative program option for girls 11-17. It is a new way for girls
to connect with each other and get advice from teen-savvy adult mentors.
Girls plan their own activities and have the chance to do the things they
really want to do. They share their thoughts on issues, create meaningful
experiences, and hang out in a place that is designed to let them be who
they are and encourages them to become who they want to be.

goals are represented by the Four B’s...

Become — Celebrate yourself today, and become your best self in the
future.

Belong — Be part of a group where
you have fun, relate to others with respect, and develop lasting
friendships.

Believe — Develop your ideas, and
voice what’s important to you.

Build — Take action on what you
care about, and make a difference.

Be a Teen
Savvy Adult. Here’s how . . . |

Ask the girls in your group
what they want. They will have many ideas about what they hope to
accomplish in STUDIO 2B.

Encourage the girls to take
positive risks by offering a safe and supportive environment where
they can begin their explorations

Learn about the issues that are
important to teens. Start at www.studio2b.org

Be willing to contact other
adults to cover an area outside of your expertise. Helping girls find
mentors who match their interests creates a more meaningful experience
for each girl.

Allow girls to participate when
and how it suits their needs. STUDIO 2B is a place where girls can
hang out in their own space, in their own way.

By welcoming all girls (new and
old) into the group, you’ll set a positive example of inclusion.

Allow girls to explore their
individual interests. Finding their own style helps girls develop
self-reliance and a strong sense of identity.

Understand that the girls need
time just to talk and have fun.

Be honest. Girls want to
discuss issues important to them and get advice from people they can
trust.

Stand back and let them see
what they can do. Allow opportunities for girls to experiment,
explore, create and discover the world
