Everyone who produces
printed material - flyers, banners, posters, T-shirts - has an opportunity
to convey the strong identity of Girl Scouts by using the Girl Scout
service mark. The service mark is a graphic representation of the Girl
Scout movement. It is composed of two parts: the symbol (the trefoil with
three profiles) and the logotype (the words "Girl Scouts"). Both parts of
the service mark must be used together. Girl Scouts' tag line, "Where
Girls Grow Strong", should be used wherever it fits with the service mark.
That line celebrates our girls and their achievements and in one efficient
glance it conveys the essence of the Girl Scout message.
To ensure that communications speak with one voice, follow these
guidelines for using the Girl Scout service mark:
- The service mark
may never be redrawn, re-proportioned, or modified in any way. The logotype
must always be in the same proportion to the symbol. A computer-generated
service mark or an artist's rendering of the service mark is not
acceptable.
- The logotype
accompanying the symbol may never be used as part of your message.
- If the service
mark is rendered in two colors, the symbol must be green and the logotype
must be blue. If it is rendered in one color, the preferred color
treatment for both parts is Girl Scout green. However, reproduction of
both parts in black is acceptable.
- When the service
mark is reproduced, the second profile must always be the darkest. The
first and third must be the lightest.
- Minimum airspace
of at least one-third the width of the symbol should be allowed on all
sides of the service mark.
- The service mark
must stand alone as an element and not be crowded in or lost among
copy, design, graphic device or any other message. The service mark cannot
be used as a background design with type running over it.
Some additional guidelines to follow:
- The Girl Scout Service Mark should
not be used in conjunction with any other logo or product identification.
- The Service Mark should be used at
all times to help identify Girl Scouting
- No freehand drawings of the Service
Mark or Girl Scout Insignia are accepted. Use the clipart available at the Service Center.
- Black ink is preferred when
printing your flyers. Pencils, colored pencils, markers, crayons, etc.
will not print clearly.
- No scotch tape or liquid glue; use
a glue stick or photo mount to paste artwork- this prevents puckers in the
paper. No back-to-back paste-ups. Submit single pages only for
copying.
- All copy submitted
for printing must be proofread and approved prior to printing.
To make an
attractive flyer:
- Keep it neat and simple
- Use art work or graphics
- Please type it, don't hand write it
- Erase or white-out all mistakes
- Use a black pen to darken areas
- Use the Girl Scout Service Mark
correctly
- Include a name and phone number of
the person in charge or designated person for further information
There are many websites that carry the logo
that can be copied and loaded into your files. However, please
follow the guidelines since many of the logos do not carry the trademark
symbol or are altered. Also many websites have additional clipart
that can by used on newsletters and on flyers. Again, however some
are using the logo in unacceptable manners (such as wallpaper) so please
be careful what you decide to use.
