Through a generous grant from Intel,
Girl Scouts of Santiam Council will present Fairplay, a weeklong day-camp
program from June 21-25th 2004 at Western Oregon University. The camp
will run each day from 10:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. for 3rd-5th
graders and 10:00a.m.- 4:00 p.m. for 7th-10th graders.
The weeklong day camp will focus on the fun, challenges and ingenuity of girls
learning about math, science and technology. Engaging students in math, science
and technology is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow’s
workforce. "Science and technology skills have become basic skills- like
reading, writing and arithmetic-necessary to compete in today’s economy," said
Carlene Ellis, Intel Vice President of Education
Design and Discovery is a program that addresses science and technology
skills. Through
hands-on activities, mentoring, presentations and behind the scenes field
trips, students discover the world of engineering. The participants are then
challenged to identify a problem or opportunity and design a solution. Girls
present their designs to their peers and community in a Solutions Showcase event
or Science Fair.
Girl Scouts of Santiam Council is excited to be able to present this
opportunity to girls throughout its jurisdiction. For information on how to
register for day camp, contact Michelle Laseter at (503) 581-2451 or
1-800-875-2451 or mlaseter@girlscoutsofsantiam.org.
Girl Scouts of Santiam Council serves 4,266 members in
