Santiam Council says good-bye to our director of program
services and hello to three new staff members
Since January, three new staff
members have taken positions at our council and a 12-year-veteran has moved
on.
Kelly Ronning, our former
director of program services, has taken a position as a regional sales
representative for Little Brownie Bakers. Sarah Johnson has moved up from
membership to take Kelly’s place.
Mary Owen is our new
development director, replacing Jyll Smith.
Mary has been a Girl Scout for
more than 20 years, from Girl Scout to Senior advisor to leader (Junior,
Cadette and mentally challenged troops) to neighborhood chair and council
liaison.
As a girl, she earned her First
Class pin and as an adult received an Outstanding in Field award and several
Certificates of Appreciation for her contributions to Girl Scouting.
Mary also has 20-plus years as a
journalist, and still freelances for newspapers and magazines. She worked
for Youth With A Mission traveling the world teaching journalism, writing
and heading media teams, and has worked with several groups handling
community/media relations.
She has two grown children,
three grandchildren, loves to travel, and teaches and plays snare drums for
bagpipe bands.
Nicole Kalita is our new
program specialist for the special programs that Girl Scouts of Santiam
Council offers. The main focus of Nicole’s job is to coordinate CHOICE, Girl Scouts Behind Bars, and the Lebanon Teen Travel program.
Nicole began with Girl Scouting
three years ago as a CHOICE leader in Benton County. That summer, she was
accepted as the council’s first AmeriCorps member for the year 2002-03. She
recently came back on board as the program specialist in January.
Nicole enjoys making a
difference in girls’ lives, and feels it’s important for adults to help
mentor youth.
In her spare time, she likes to
play tennis, crochét, read, camp and shop.
Mary Ann Montoya is our
new Latina program specialist. She enjoys working in an environment in which
she can share her skills and creativity with children.
“I’m excited to be working for
Girl Scout of Santiam Council and assisting the monolingual community,” Mary
Ann said.
She is a mother of five and a
Salem resident.
