Welcome
to NEW Learning opportunities. Some of the program
names have changed, but the best thing of all is that training is now
available ONLINE! It's exciting!
Success as a Volunteer
Girl Scouts of Santiam Council wants to help you to be a
success in your volunteer position and enjoy your time with us. We
designed our adult development program to be convenient, fun, easy to use
and loaded with material that will help you make the most out of your time
with the girls. If you have any questions about what courses you need
please contact your service unit manager or membership director for help.
Sorting Out What Trainings You Need to
Take
Progression is the key to the
way Girl Scouts learn about the world around them. In practice,
progression means using common sense in preparing for experience - one step
at a time. A number of safeguards are built into the Girl Scout
program to ensure progression and girl readiness.
Progression is also integral to
adults. Whether an adult is learning to take a group on a hike, stay
overnight in a program center, or prepare a meal over an outdoor stove, some
basic safety considerations require that s/he be trained to take part in the
planning and implementation of the adventure. In turn, adults then
teach girls the necessary steps of successful planning.
Adult volunteers that
demonstrate competence, commitment to Girl Scouts, continuous improvement,
and participate in adult development opportunities that will increase their
skill(s) in working with girls may qualify for the
Leadership Development pin.
We encourage all troops/groups to have two trained adults. It is more
productive and can make the experience more fun!

Training Formats
Girl Scouts of Santiam Council
offers a variety of training formats to accommodate the busy lives and
different learning styles of our adult volunteers. The following are
the formats we offer:
Group Setting
This is where you get all the
benefits of learning the material directly from volunteer council trainers
and interacting with other adult volunteers around the councils
jurisdiction.
Participants will submit a
registration form and any required fee to the council service center at
least two weeks prior to the course. A confirmation letter will
be sent with directions to the site. After the course the trainer will
sign your training card and a certificate of completion will be presented to
you at your service unit meeting.
Home-Study
The training material is presented
in a workbook that you complete on your own. This is ideal for those
volunteers under time restraints or that can not travel.
Participants will submit a
registration form to the council service center. They will receive their
home-study booklet by mail and have one month to complete it. Once
participants have returned the completed paperwork to the service center
they will receive a signed training card and a certificate of completion.
*On-Line/CD Rom
For those who find learning on the
computer fun and convenient, we are offering a new on-line format.
Participants will log onto the
training through a link on our web site. They will be able to start
and stop the course as they need. Once complete, they will print off a
certificate of completion and a signed training card will be sent to them.
