Focus of this
year's Program Events
This year we
want to help your troop “Make
It A Hit.”
This friendly theatre focus comes with high energy tools for helping girls
reach their goals, stretch their imaginations and learn life skills that
will help them
Perform.
The following pages contain the descriptions of Santiam Council’s events
for the year. Some of the events are for individuals and some are for
troops only. Be sure that only troop leaders submit troop registrations. A
parent may complete the registration form for individual girl events. Some
additional information will be given through
The Alert,
the monthly
leaders’ newsletter, or the
Santiam Circle,
the
council’s quarterly newsletter. If you need more information, contact the
council service center.
Be sure to
retain this publication for use throughout the year. There is a cost of
$5.75 to print and publish each
Signal
and we want to use our resources wisely. You should plan to make copies of
the registration forms in this book. You can also find them on line at our
web site
www.girlscoutsofsantiam.org. Your service
unit manager will also have a few additional copies.
Adult Supervision
Requirements
A
minimum of two adults must accompany each troop/group to a troop event.
Please consult the guidelines in
Safety-Wise
for exact ratio information. To provide a diverse experience for girls,
your troop may be asked to divide up at events. Adults who accompany troops
may be asked to provide supervision for a group of girls who may not be the
girls with whom they arrived. Be sure all adults in your group are aware
that this may happen.
Permission Slips
Each
troop is responsible for providing its own permission slips for all events.
Each girl must be a registered Girl Scout with a permission slip. Each
troop must also submit its “Notice of Intent” form to its service unit
manager prior to the event.
Time
The
beginning time for each event listed in this guide is the
actual beginning time.
Registration/check-in on the day of the event will begin
one-half hour prior
to the
beginning of the event. Events will begin promptly at the listed start
time.
Accompanying Adults
Unless
otherwise noted, adults accompanying Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scout
troops do not need to pay the registration fee. Be sure that the adults
accompanying the girls have the appropriate training.
Adult Development
Progression is the key to the
way Girl Scouts learn about the world around them. In practice,
progression means using common sense in preparing for experience - one step
at a time. A number of safeguards are built into the Girl Scout
program to ensure progression and girl readiness.
Progression is also integral to
adults. Whether an adult is learning to take a group on a hike, stay
overnight in a program center, or prepare a meal over an outdoor stove, some
basic safety considerations require that s/he be trained to take part in the
planning and implementation of the adventure. In turn, adults then
teach girls the necessary steps of successful planning.
